Bury the dead and live on

For every coming, there is a going; and for every birth, a death is guaranteed. An igbo adage says “o biara ije ga- ala” ( one who embarks on a journey must return home). Sometimes, the death of a person so dear and so beloved to us, throws us off balance. Sometimes, we wish so dearly to be taken with the person, other times we ask God “why?”. But Bizzle, a rap artiste, said in one of his songs:____”what if I told you to choose when your mom died? You think you can choose when your mom dies? If you put it off twenty years away, twenty years later when that day comes, would you not cry?”. Every man is born to die and we should all accept that fact in good fate. The book of “sirach 17:31” says_____

” what is brighter than the sun? Yet it disappears”

what is brighter than the sun? Yet it disappears

sirach 17:31

That’s not all, chapter 38 verses 16 to 23; says,____

“my son, weep for the dead, lament to express your sorrow; bury the dead with fitting ceremonial, and do not fail to honor their tombs. Weep bitterly, cry out with full voice, and observe the period of mourning the deceased deserves; let it be for one or two days, and so avoid criticism, and then be consoled in your grief. For sorrowing may lead to death, and a dejected heart loses its vitality. Let your affliction cease with the funeral; a life of sorrow is intolerable. Do not let your heart give way to grief; bear up and think of your own end. Remember! There is no coming back; you do the dead no good, but rather harm yourself. Keep in mind my fate which will be yours as well; mine yesterday, yours today! When the dead person is at rest, let his memory be one of peace; be comforted on his account once his spirit has departed”

sirach 38:16-23

You don’t need much explanation, do you?. The message is clear – bury the dead and live on. Do not harm yourself over a person’s death because you will go down that road someday. Do not ask God questions, do not curse him, do not tear yourself apart; and I say again, bury the dead and live on!
